Greco Serial Number Checker

Greco guitars are fairly easy to date. The letter that (may) begin the serial number corresponds with the month of production, and the next 2 digits tell the year. Can you date a hagstrom from the serial number? I read recently that the first two numbers are the year, but this seems wrong to me at least sometimes. The only site in the world dedicated to Goya guitars - as well as Levin and 'Goya' Greco brand. Check this out. According to the Levin serial number lists.

  Greco serial numbers?

  Does anyone know how the Greco serial numbers work?
  I have a Greco Flying V, it's some kind of special edition I think, and it's beautiful.
  I can guess with reasonable certainty that it's 197x, but was trying to get more specific.
  The serial number is J830405.
  Can anyone help?

  From what I can work out it was built October 1983, production number 405.
  But there are a few different methods on the internet, can anyone confirm this?

  October 1983 is correct, it's also one of their 'Mint Collection' models (1983)
